I hope this is alright, I'm still an art noveau newbie (in fact I thought art noveau existed only in architecture until I came across this contest).
I absolutely love the theme, and I've been a fan of greek mythology ever since so I decided to go for the myth of Persephone (if you are not familiar with the story you can read it here: www.mythencyclopedia.com/Pa-Pr… . I think this is a nicely written version of the tale, if you don't want to read it all I'll sum up the whole thing for you:
Hades, god of the kingdom of the dead, wanted to take Persephone, daughter of the goddess Demeter, as his wife, kidnapped her and brought her into the underworld. Demeter was grieving and let all the plants die (she was the goddess of harvest and stuff), so the other gods felt like there was the need to find a compromise. The solution was that Persephone spends half a year with Hades (autumn and winter, during that time Demeter is sad and doesn't let anything grow) and the other half of the year with her mother. So when Persephone leaves the underworld she brings spring with her.
This is the part of the story I wanted to illustrate, Persephone bringing growth and awakening to everything she touches and leaving the underworld behind. The end result is still rather conceptual but I had the impression that most art nouveau works are, so maybe it's not that bad.
